Melt, Adelaide

I’m not the type of person to start chasing down every single newly opened restaurants as it is usually just hype. I’m looking for the real deal guys and I won’t settle for less. I’ll only venture down if it’s something that really pipes my interest. Although not new, I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about Melt – yep that pizza place. A heads up that if you get the share table lunch it is only $29 a person – cheaper then dinners  :D

Starting off with some tapas we had a dish full of creamy hommus and crispy pita bread – alright but nothing great. Just give me another plate of that panfried laoumi – chewy delicious cheese. Is there anything better in life than melted cheese?

Frittas? I would rename these to be called deep fried cloud ;) Tasting like deep fried puff pastry with tiny bits of broccoli and carrot throughout the fritta. Surprisingly it wasn’t oily and went perfectly with a good slather of mayo. To make our meal a bit more healthier a plate full of tasty string beans and chilli came out :) Sadly the potatoes and chick peas with tomato bolognaise sauce dish was dry and a bit meh.

Finally our mains arrived (it was about a 40 min wait between our entrees and pizzas). Starting from with the meatball pizza (Albondigas) which had a rich tomato based sauce and alright meatballs. Not much to talk about sorry :( Next onto the zucchini and lemon was sour and bitter at the same time. Reminded me of a savoury lemon tart but the flavours for me weren’t actually too weird. Surprisingly I liked the margarita the most (and I’m not even vegetarian). Nice welcome with it’s light and refreshing flavours from the lovely cheese and cherry tomato :)

Not a pizza lover by far where I found the pizzas to be quite ordinary and nothing that special. Loved the frittas and panfried haloumi from the tapas selection but that was about it. Service was polite but food came out extremely slow.
